Dr. Zaha graduated from Carol Davila Medical University, Bucharest, Romania, and then completed a fellowship in molecular biology and genetics at University of Utah, internal medicine at Indiana University, and cardiovascular medicine and acvanced cardiovascular imaging training at Yale and University College London.
Dr. Zaha is an Associate Professor of Medicine (Cardiology), Biomedical Engineering and Cancer Biology, Director of Cardio-Oncology Program at Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Section Chief of Cardio-Oncology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, in Dallas Texas. Dr. Zaha leads translational investigation of mechanisms of heart disease due to anticancer treatments using noninvasive imaging tools for assessment of cardiac metabolism, such as hyperpolarized 13C-labeled pyruvate based cardiac magnetic spectroscopic imaging, leading the first cardiac metabolic MRI diagnostic trial in patients receiving anthracycline therapy for breast cancer.
Dr. Zaha serves in cardio-oncology professional groups, currently as Section Chair for the Texas Chapter of the American College of Cardiology, and previously in the cardio-oncology leadership councils for the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiolgy.
Dr. Zaha is also associate editor of the journal Circulation.
