Dr. Swaminath is an Associate Professor, Clinician Scientist and Radiation Oncologist at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, McMaster University, Hamilton.
He received his medical degree from the University of Ottawa, finished residency training at McMaster University, and completed a clinical-research fellowship in image-guided radiotherapy/SBRT for lung and upper abdominal malignancies at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
His clinical and research interests are in the application of new technologies in radiation therapy, specifically stereotactic body radiation therapy for a wide variety of indications including kidney, lung and liver cancer. He has a particular interest in radiation for kidney cancer - he is a member of the International Radiation Oncology Consortium of Kidney (IROCK) group, the Canadian Kidney Cancer Information System (CKCIS) steering committee, the Kidney Cancer Reserach Network of Canada (KCRNC) and the medical advisory board for Kidney Cancer Canada. He is also a co-PI and radiation lead on important trials evaluating SBRT in both the primary and metastatic RCC setting including the CYTOSHRINK study of cytoreductive SBRT for metastatic RCC, and the RADSTER trial evaluating SBRT compared to thermal ablation. He has authored or co-authored more than 90 peer reviewed publications, many of which are within the kidney cancer scope, and has obtained several large-scale grants both locally and nationally involving the evaluation of SBRT/SABR in the primary and metastatic cancer setting.
